Increase is worth it

The Way I See It

You may have noticed that you paid a bit more for your newspaper today.

We started charging a $1 for the paper after selling it for 75 cents for the past 13 years.

Another thing we are charging for is our website. It has been free for over 13 years, too!

Why the increase? We believe that our commitment to reporting local news, sports, special features, school happenings and more, is worth it. We have great readership and with that, our readers value this service.

Reporting and creating our award winning newspaper’s content is costly to produce and newspapers won’t be able to survive if that content is provided for free online.

Everything is going up and we held it for as long as we could.

If you are a current subscriber - good news! Your online E-edition is included in your subscription rate. All you need to do is visit our website - pleasantonexpress.com - and click on the “suscribe” button. If you need assistance, you can call us and we will help set up an online account.

More good news - our subscription rates have remained the same. So there is an incentive to subscribe and receive a bit of a discount off of our newsstand price.

Our readers have always been loyal and typically buy most of our papers off of the racks, not wanting to wait to receive their copy in the mail.

The way I see it, the improvements to our site and the content that we include both in print and online are still such a bargain.

As Warren Buffett said, “There is no substitute for a local newspaper that is doing its job.”

We appreciate our readers and advertisers and continually strive to have the best newspaper possible for you to enjoy while doing our job.
