Passports may be available in Atascosa County

Have you ever needed a passport? I have, and if you live in the tri-city area it is danged inconvenient. The closest places are the post offices in Lytle, Elmendorf or you may go to the main post office in San Antonio. Not all post offices do passports. Those that do often have funky hours, require appointments or don’t make appointments; and often when you go to a small post office the “one” employee that knows how is not there.

Your county has a solution. Actually, your county district clerk has a solution. Margaret Littleton is working out the details to get the district clerk’s office set up to do passports. She is presently checking into the cost of cameras and the cost to provide the service.

Before you think the county is going to spend more money, Margaret has it figured out how to do it with her existing staff. Margaret intends to have all the personnel trained to do it so that they are not shut down when one person is out. She also has figured out how the fees will cover the county’s costs. Margaret says she will allow walk-ins and appointments.

I am very excited about this kind of thinking that brings important services available to our citizens that are not conveniently available at this time.

Thanks for listening.

We want you to be proud of your county government.
